This Tier System ranges from programs with no program fee to the most expensive program fee of $12,000. Specific information about each program is listed on the EAO website.

** For Non-SU programs, fees related to tuition, room, and/or board will be paid directly to the program provider but students are still required to pay the SU technology fee and a $1000 fee prior to departure to transfer credits back to Seattle U.
The majority of education systems operate on the semester system. While Seattle University operates on the quarter system, most SU-Sponsored, SU-Exchanges, and Non-SU programs operate on the semester system. Therefore, depending on the program and when you go abroad, there are different credit and financial considerations.
Consult with your Academic Advisor to see how credit transfers will impact your academic progress towards graduation. Consult with Student Financial Services for detailed information regarding your individual financial aid.
Below are three tables highlighting the basic differences in credits and finances between the quarter system at Seattle U and studying abroad for a semester (or two!) on SU-Sponsored/SU-Exchange and Non-SU Programs.

Short-term courses add an international field-study component to classes taught during the fall, winter or spring quarter. Students attend pre-departure courses in the quarter prior to winter break, spring break, or summer break. Once the quarter ends, the class travels abroad with their faculty member(s) to complete the international field-study portion of the course. The duration of the international component ranges from one week to three weeks.
The entire course may be compressed into an intensive short-term format that is primarily conducted overseas with the exception of pre-departure meetings and out-of-class assignments held on the SU campus.
*Please note that some short-term courses take place during winter or spring break.
Costs vary according to each program and are charged to the SU student account. See the Financial Aid Budgets for more detailed cost estimates. This budget is required when meeting with Student Financial Services to discuss financial aid options.
SU enrolls all participants in required global medical travel health insurance. The cost of this insurance is incurred by the student. Contact program faculty directors for more information.

The Department of Modern Languages offers two Faculty-led language immersion programs in French or Spanish. Student take courses on campus in the Fall quarter and study abroad in Winter and/or Spring quarters.
One or multi-quarter tuition depending on the length of the program and any additional fees associated with selected program. Students are enrolled in the SU required global medical travel health insurance which is billed through their student account.
Latin American Studies Program
Internships that are sponsored through Seattle University faculty. Students are registered for an internship course through Seattle University and are required to complete an internship for their degree requirement.

The Seattle University offers a menu of more than 100+ sponsored semester-long and academic year programs. S.U. institutional scholarships, grants, and full state and federal aid can be applied to these programs.
SU Sponsored & SU Exchange Program Search
You can now search our SU Sponsored & SU Exchange program by destination, field of study, features, etc. When using this, be aware that some program may only offer one or many courses in that discipline. Students must work with their Academic Advisor and Education Abroad Advisor to determine whether a given program will satisfy degree requirements. Program Fees listed are subject to change.
For each semester or quarter abroad, students pay one quarter of SU tuition and applicable program fees. Even when abroad, SU students are responsible to pay SU technology fee. Students receive a budget for their selected program which includes these costs as well as estimated additional costs. Students are responsible for full payment of tuition and program costs once the acceptance agreement is signed on Horizons. SU pays the program provider for the cost of the program. Some programs include housing while others do not. Consult the Program Budget Worksheets (located in the details under each program in our Search) to determine this. If housing is not included, students will pay the program sponsor directly for it. Students are responsible to pay for additional expenses such as lab fees, voluntary excursions, housing upgrades, etc.
*Should a student withdraw acceptance for any reason after the agreement is signed, that student is responsible for all unrecoverable costs which SU has incurred on the student's behalf. Contact the Education Abroad office for more information.*
Seattle University currently offers 8 exchange programs with the partner universities listed below. They allow the unique experience of enrollment in a comprehensive university as well as reciprocally hosting students from that university here on the SU campus.
SU Sponsored & SU Exchange Program Search
The institution may offer one course in that discipline or many courses in this discipline. Therefore, students will still need to work with their Academic Advisor and Education Abroad Advisor to determine whether a given program will satisfy an individuals degree requirements. As Seattle University has agreements with these universities, students will not be able to enroll into these schools directly as a Non-SU program. Program Fees listed are subject to change.
Students will be charged one quarter of SU tuition for participation during fall quarter or winter/spring quarters combined. SU, state and federal aid can be applied to SU Exchange programs. Housing is applied through the host university and not included in the tuition cost. Students with questions about their financial aid are highly encouraged to visit the Student Financial Services to learn more. Students are enrolled in the SU required which is billed to their student account.
SU enrolls all SU exchange participants in required global medical travel health insurance. The cost of this insurance is incurred by the student and will appear on their MySeattleU billing page closer to abroad departure date.
If SU Sponsored, Exchange or Faculty-led program options do not meet a students unique requirements, they can participate in a Non-SU program. Participants in Non-SU programs are still required to meet with their Education Abroad Advisor and apply through the Education Abroad office. Contact for more details.
While selecting Non-SU programs, students will not be able to participate in the programs that are available on our SU-sponsored and exchange list. Please be sure to check in with an Education Abroad Advisor to confirm that they can participate in their desired Non-SU program.
Program provider fees, SU Technology Fee and Education Abroad Transfer Articulation Fee of $1,000 (charged to SU student account on the term of abroad enrollment). Student who do not pay the fee will not be able to transfer their credits, therefore, all credit bearing programs must go through the Education Abroad Office. Students with State and Federal Aid are highly encouraged to go to Student Financial Services to learn more about their aid distribution.

Please be sure to check in with the Education Abroad Office to see if your non-credit opportunity needs to be authorized through EAO, we recommend contacting us at least 2 months prior to ensure paperwork is processed in a timely manner.
